Leon Spierer served as First Concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra from 1963 to 1993, under Herbert von Karajan and other legendary conductors. Mto. Portland, OR-The Board of Directors of Metropolitan Youth Symphony (MYS) has announced the selection of Raúl Gómez-Rojas as the organization’s next Music Director, effective August 1, 2016. Selected from over 50 national and international applicants, Gomez received his Master of Music in Violin Performance and Doctor of Musical Arts in Conducting, studying with Carlos Riazuelo, at Louisiana State University, and was a conducting fellow at the Aspen Music Festival in 2011.
