Leon Spierer served as First Concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra from 1963 to 1993, under Herbert von Karajan and other legendary conductors. Mto. Spierer took time out of his schedule to Skype in at our Symphony Orchestra retreat on Saturday, October 29. Hi everybody! I thought the retreat was a great success. The guest coaches were impressed with you, and we made a lot of progress on the music. Keep up the good work. It's the homestretch before our first concert! Keep polishing your parts individually, and focus on LISTENING during rehearsals. Press Release: Metropolitan Youth Symphony Names New Music Director
Portland, OR-The Board of Directors of Metropolitan Youth Symphony (MYS) has announced the selection of Raúl Gómez-Rojas as the organization’s next Music Director, effective August 1, 2016. Selected from over 50 national and international applicants, Gomez received his Master of Music in Violin Performance and Doctor of Musical Arts in Conducting, studying with Carlos Riazuelo, at Louisiana State University, and was a conducting fellow at the Aspen Music Festival in 2011.
