Announcing MYS Symphony Orchestra 2018-19 Season!

Hello everybody!

I'm excited to unveil MYS Symphony Orchestra's 2018-2019 season!

We have a deeply collaborative and fun season in store for all of you. Here are a few highlights:

  • Our Symphony Orchestra season begins in Italy with our concert entitled "Viva Italia," (November 11) and ends in Italy and Slovenia when we actually go to those countries on tour in July of 2019.

  • We are partnering with fEARnoMUSIC's Young Composers Program so that every single MYS concert at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall will feature a world premiere by a local young composer.

  • MYS Symphony Orchestra will join forces with Pacific Youth Choir to present a fun concert of music by Latin American composers at the Newmark Theater on January 6.

  • In March, Northwest Children's Theatre and School's all-bird, all-puppet troupe The Starlings will take over the Schnitz as our Symphony Orchestra performs Stravinsky's The Firebird Suite.

  • Our Season Finale on May 21 features the music of Florence Price (1887-1953), the first African-American woman to be recognized as a symphonic composer, and the first to have a composition performed by a major orchestra (Chicago Symphony, 1933)

  • And that's only one of 16 MYS ensembles (!!!), including orchestras, bands, jazz, percussion and our TWO NEW STRING ENSEMBLES IN HILLSBORO! Stay tuned for details regarding collaborations of some of our other ensembles with the Oregon International Ballet Academy (hint: Nutcracker!), BodyVox's JAG, A Far Cry (from Boston), Joe Kye and more!
