Message from Leon Spierer

Leon Spierer served as First Concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra from 1963 to 1993, under Herbert von Karajan and other legendary conductors. Mto. Spierer took time out of his schedule to Skype in at our Symphony Orchestra retreat on Saturday, October 29.

A few hours after our Skype session, he e-mailed me with some final thoughts for our musicians. I would like to share his message with the entire MYS community.

"Dear MYS Students: It was my pleasure to try to answer your interesting questions. I would like to add that in my opinion, to succeed in one's elected profession, you need: A little talent, a lot of ambition, very hard work-----and a little bit of luck. You are young. The world is yours. You have the best chance NOW to prepare yourselves well for it!---"

Maestro Spierer spoke to our musicians about his life history, his beginnings in music, his years with the Berlin Philharmonic and his passion and love for music. He also answered specific questions from our students about practicing, technique, favorite music and more. We are extremely grateful that he took the time to talk to us!

Below is an image of the Skype conversation.

Thank you Maestro Spierer!!!
