2019 Winter Seating Audition Information

A few people have let me know that they're having trouble with the link to audition information in my other post, so I'm including all the information below:

MYS Winter 2018 Seating Auditions

Instructions

1. The audition will consist of one orchestral excerpt from our current repertoire and 2 to 3 minutes of a solo piece of your choice (concert, show piece, etude, etc). Only percussionists and harp are exempt of recorded audition. You should record your audition on video, upload to YouTube and submit to MYS according to these guidelines.

2. You should submit only one link. This can be a single video with both pieces edited together, or a YouTube playlist that contains two separate videos. Regardless of how you do it, the orchestral excerpt should appear first. If this is not clear, e-mail production@playmys.org.

3. Orchestral excerpt:

  • Record the part that you are playing for the January 6 concert according to current seating rosters.

  • If you have many bars of rest between entrances, feel free to skip over after a short pause. If it’s just a few short bars, do count rests. Use your judgement.

  • I will be evaluating accuracy of notes, intonation, dynamics, phrasing, tempo, rhythmic accuracy and musicality.

Woodwinds: Moncayo, from 4 after #11 to Lento (8 after #21)

Brass: Márquez, from m. 184 to the end

Violins, violas, cellos: Márquez, from m. 93 to m. 145

Basses: Osorio, from beginning to m. 61

4. Solo selection:

  • As stated above, after the orchestral excerpt, you should record 2 to 3 minutes of a solo piece of your choice, showing your highest technical and musical achievement.

5. Submission:

  • Deadline is Saturday, December 22 at 11:59:59pm.

  • Send your YouTube link to production@playmys.org
