NEW APPOINTMENT: Head of Music Programs & Education Advisor | YOA Orchestra of the Americas

Hi everybody,

I'm happy to announce that I have accepted the position of Head of Music Programs & Education Advisorwith YOA Orchestra of the Americas for YOA's 2014 Caribbean Tour.

I will be working with a wonderful group of extremely talented and dedicated staff, faculty and musicians on what will be a tremendously rewarding tour throughDominican Republic, Haiti and Jamaica during the month of July.

This appointment is extremely significant for me for a number of reasons. The first one is that I was a violinist with YOA for five summers from 2002 to 2006. It was my acceptance into YOA's inaugural tour when I was 18 years old that gave me a much-needed final push to make the decision to dedicate my life to music. Twelve years later, I've come full-circle and will be working under fantastic leadership to help create a life-changing experience for 80 YOA musicians and hundreds of local Dominican, Haitian and Jamaican students.

YOA opened my eyes back when I was still a teenager to how music has the power to make dreams come true. My experience as a Costa Rican representative with YOA has informed my work at every single artistic and administrative position I've held since.

YOA is a truly first-class performing orchestra that also places community outreach and education at the top of their priorities. If you take that last sentence and substitute the word "artist" for "orchestra," that describes exactly what I aspire to be.

If you're not familiar with YOA, please take a few moments to go to www.yoa.org and learn about a wonderful organization that's truly transforming lives and communities through music making of the highest caliber.
